Cova Cafe,
Millennium and Infinity
Millennium Class, Celebrity Cruises
Wilson Butler
Lodge (now WBA) designed the Theaters, Grand
Foyers and circulation spaces for Celebrity's new Millennium Class ships
- Millennium, the class' flagship, and its sister ship Infinity.
The
Cova Cafe, a branded coffee bar, is a 120-seat, 3200 s.f. central space
in the three-story Grand Foyer abroad
Celebrity Cruises Millennium class ships. The original Cova Cafe, built
in 1756 near the famed La Scala Opera House and still a meeting place
for fashionable Milanese society, served as WBA's model for this shipboard
version.
Authentic
Cova artifacts such as candy molds, candy boxes, and ice buckets displayed
on the walls reveal layers of Cova history. Images include posters of
Cova patrons and interiors of yesteryear. The chairs and tables throughout
the Cafe reflect the style of traditional, high-end European cafes, with
their rich coffee specialties and savory pastries.
The
adjacent Tea Room is smaller and more intimate. Within this private, quiet
setting, guests may relax at tables covered in genuine Cova gold linens
and linger over freshly baked pastries and an exotic collection of flavorful
teas. This 3,200 s.f. area overlooks the Grand Foyer and provides seating
for 120 people.
