Studio B,
Explorer of the Seas
Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines
The
Studio B theater on the second Voyager-class ship, Explorer of the Seas,
is similar to the first Studio B, on its sister ship, Voyager
of the Seas: an ice rink with a retractable deck cover, a raised stage,
telescopic seating, open lighting and sound booths and a full-feature
television studio. However, the feel of the space is radically different.
The room is loosely based on the theme of a mad scientistŐs laboratory
and is animated by a creative art package. This theme was jointly developed
by Wilson Butler Architects and Bonk, a Finnish environmental art group,
and is based on an ironic look at the state of technology. Performances
include ice shows, game shows, comedy sketches and live music.
Special
consultants for the project include theater planners Fisher Dachs Associates,
acoustical designers Jaffe Holden Acoustics, lighting designers Fisher
Marantz Stone, Inc., and video designers Boyce Nemec Designs.
