Spingold Theater, Brandeis University
Waltham, Massachusetts

Wilson Butler Architects are working with Brandeis University and the University's performing arts faculty to provide options for renewing the Spingold Theater, a multiple-venue dramatic arts center originally designed by Max Abramowitz in 1962. WBA surveyed and documented changes to the facility that have taken place over its lifetime. Working with a new department chairman, the current facilities manager, and the recently created Brandeis Office for the Arts, WBA analyzed the goals and aspirations of the Theater Department as well as those of the University at large. The resulting Master Plan for Renovation and Expansion proposed a range of options and opportunities for transforming the facility in ways that will meet those changing needs.

The Spingold Theater has three stages: The Mainstage (Proscenium) Theater with 747 seats; the Laurie Theater, with a thrust stage, seating 160; and the Merrick Theater, a studio theater seating 120.
