Stratford Waterfront Development
Stratford, Connecticut
The
master plan for the Stratford-upon-the-Housatonic, Inc. (SUTHI) development
project combined 14 acres of state-owned waterfront park grounds with
11 acres of private commercially zoned property. It integrated the entertainment
uses of the renowned but "dark" Shakespeare Theater with the
unrealized potential for a vibrant commercial waterfront along the Connecticut's
Housatonic River. The plan created a pedestrian oriented mixed-use center
with a 350 room conference hotel housing a complex of stores, restaurants,
bars and entertainment venues and required parking. The adjacent marina
expansion includes improved landslide facilities and 62 new boat slips.
Projected construction cost was estimated at $95,000,000. Scott Wilson,
AIA, was Project Architect/Master Planner and the founding member of SUTHI,
the development corporation. Plan completed in 1994.
